Hike between Coffee Bay, Hole in Wall and Mbashe Mouth taking in the best of Wild Coast scenery.
Immerse yourself in the warm heart of the Eastern Cape’s Wild Coast taking in the very best of authentic African scenery.
From the photogenic Hole in Wall to the golden beaches and secluded estuaries running south of Lubanzi. Walk over aloe dotted grassy headlands and stretch your legs along long sandy beaches. Reach your final destination at the Haven Hotel on the mouth of the magnificent Mbashe River after 4 memorable days of solitary hiking.
Experience the daily lives of the rural Xhosa communities as you walk through the villages and settlements of this peaceful pastoral area and take in the special sunrises and sunsets at the backpackers and small lodges that are dotted along this section of the Wild Coast.
Daily distances are manageable so you have plenty of time to connect with the scenery and unspoilt essence of the Wild Coast. This is a varied trail with a mixture of beach, dune forest and grassy hill walking best suited to those with a fair level of fitness
We recommend an extra day at either Lubanzi or Bulungula to experience the eco-friendly vibe and to relax and explore the local Xhosa culture and nature based activities. Important to appreciate that these community run lodges are an essential component of giving back to the people through tourism related enterprises.
Coffee Bay is an easy day’s drive from Durban or East London or a convenient fly in and pick up from Umthata airport if coming from Gauteng. The hike is fully guided with shuttles to the start and pick up at the end. Travel with a light backpack or use porters for bag transfers between overnights (not included in the standard package).
