The Zululand Rover Slackpack is an action-packed 3-day hiking adventure that showcases the diverse coastal scenery of this captivating region. Your daily walks cover mangrove filled lagoons, dune sand forest, wild white beaches and fern-fringed trails as well as the endemic Raphia Palms for which this region is famous.

These paths are perfect for leisurely birdwatching strolls or exhilarating runs. The region is renowned for its diverse birdlife, horseshoe estuary, and fine dining establishments.

Guided by bird experts and local enthusiasts passionate about the unique fauna, flora, history and human stories that define this special place, each day on the trail promises a new experience.

This fully catered trail includes lodgings for 3 nights, a registered Bird Guide for 2 hike days and pathfinders/local guide for 1 hike days, various land permissions and hiking permits, logistics, all meals and a donation towards the local nature conservancy.

Daily Hike Details

Day 1: 13 km hike through Mlalazi Reserve, mangroves, and beaches; approx. ​ 6-7 hours. Day 2: 13 km hike through dune forest and secluded beach; approx. ​ 4 hours. Day 3: 9 km hike in Raphia Palm Forest, ending with brunch at a country club; approx. ​ 3 hours.
